Overview
The Department of Applied Chemistry at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University is located in Science Building II and on the 5th to 7th floors of the Tin Ka-Ping Building on the Guangfu Campus, occupying a total area of 14,870 square meters.
DAC was established in 1982, and initially consisted of only a master’s program; the bachelor’s and doctoral programs were established in 1990 and 1992, respectively, and the Institute of Molecular Science was established in 2005.
IMS was established in 2005
To enhance global competitiveness and attract outstanding international students, the International Master of Science Program for Interdisciplinary Molecular Science of Materials and Chemical Biology (SPIM) was established in 2013. In 2014, the Department of Applied Chemistry (DAC) partnered with the Institute of Chemistry at Academia Sinica to launch the Taiwan International Graduate Program in Sustainable Chemical Science and Technology (TIGP-SCST).

Research and Funding
The Department of Applied Chemistry (DAC) maintains strong collaborations with industry and government agencies, supported by substantial funding from both the public and private sectors. The Department’s annual research budget has steadily increased and currently totals approximately NT$155 million.
Current research areas include pharmaceutical design and synthesis, supramolecular chemistry, photochemistry, enzymology, protein genetic engineering, microfluidic analytical chemistry, bioanalysis, single-molecule detection, molecular dynamics, laser chemistry, ultrafast kinetics, nanomaterials, superconducting materials, polymer materials, polymer science and technology, optoelectronic materials, renewable energy, computer simulation, and theoretical calculations.
The Department of Applied Chemistry (DAC) is recognized as one of the most internationalized programs in Taiwan, offering a wide range of courses taught entirely in English. In addition, distinguished professors from Japan are regularly invited to deliver lectures, providing students with valuable opportunities to engage with Japanese academic culture and research excellence while further enhancing their language proficiency.

Total number of 28 Faculty in DAC：
17 Professors; 6 Associate Professors; 3 Assistant Professors; 1 Instructor; 1 Teaching Assistants.
Plus, DAC has a total of 2 Academicians, 6 Foreign Chair Professors, 4 Joint and Adjunct Professors, 2 Contract Professors, 2 Contract Assistant Professors, and 1 Contract Instructor.
More than 480 students are enrolled in DAC, with the ratio of graduates vs. undergraduates approximating 1.5:1.
